What makes this form different

A winter garden has both a roof and enclosing sides. Decide whether you want a seasonal sitting room or a space connected to the heated interior before choosing the frame and glass. The name alone does not establish year-round comfort.

How the room will be used: Tell us the months and times of day you expect to use it. Discuss heating or cooling, shading, ventilation and condensation with the project team.
Roof and building connection: Locate the posts, roof beams and junction with the house. Roof glazing, support, drainage and cleaning access need to suit the site.
Doors and opening panels: Mark a route into the garden and the areas that should open. Check the floor level and panel movement against seating, plants and curtains.

What makes this form different

This version encloses the sides of an existing covered area. It does not add the complete glass roof of a winter garden. The original slab, outer edge and drainage remain part of the design.

Existing roof, slab and railings: Provide photos and sections of the head, floor edge and side walls. Review what can carry the framing and how the existing edge protection will be retained.
Fixed and opening areas: Choose the view panels and ventilation openings around furniture and cleaning access. Compare sliding, folding or window layouts after measuring the usable area.
Floor and drainage: Show the floor slope, water outlets and the track position. Confirm the intended degree of weather enclosure, building permissions and installation responsibilities for the site.

Glass canopy

A glazed cover above an entrance or a short outdoor route. The sides stay open, so the first decisions concern the roof edge, its supports and the wall connection.

What makes this form different

A canopy covers an area from above without making an enclosed room. Wind-driven rain may still enter from the sides. The canopy does not provide the indoor conditions of a glazed garden room.

Where the frame is supported: Show the wall construction and any proposed posts or brackets. Projection, fixings and local load conditions need a project-specific structural review.
Glass above people: Confirm the overhead glazing requirement, edge details and how each panel is retained. Glass build-up and supporting members must be selected for the reviewed assembly.
Where rainwater goes: Mark roof fall, gutter or drip edge, and the discharge route. Keep water away from the door opening and check access for cleaning and glass replacement.
